As our organization set out to have a strategic planning meeting to move forward one our product lines we realized we needed some "outside in" help and perspective. The meeting took place over a 2-day period with 30 people from all over the country and from different roles within our organization - to include one of our Founders. The meeting was a springboard to initiatives that we are still working on a year and a half later. I have my eyes wide open since our meetings. Your influence on me and my management staff was exciting for me to hear and be a part of as we move forward with our strategic and business plan development. Your program inspired me to become the manager I knew was inside me and because of the political situation I am in, was not able to be who I am. The focus I now have is toward developing the best management team in the university. We have brainstormed to develop a united, commonly shared vision and are now on a path to accomplish our goals. I have also searched out new methods, books, seminars to understand and be able to help our team become better people within themselves. I just finished a quick read of a book called Gung Ho, written by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles. In a way I was performing like the character Andy was doing but did not share that information. I learned several management tools that I can now fine-tune to get to the point where I can have a full understanding and methods can be passed on to others. I also understood another character, Morrison, with whom I have been working under for oh so long.
I can see the light somewhat dim but getting brighter every day. I am not sitting back just agreeing to everything and have taken a position for what I believe we should do in order for me and the rest of the staff to become superior in our jobs and life. The students, staff, and the rest of the UST community has always been my focus. I feel like I started a new position and am working with people I just met—understanding their mannerisms and developing a mind-set that will unify our visions.
